Ten years of seeking knowledge, and onward to the stars. This year’s recruitment exam marks APC’s tenth anniversary. As always, we have prepared 8 original exam papers. Everyone who takes part receives a gift, and those who pass can choose from an even larger selection of prizes, including a free copy of the 2020 Gewu Annual!

Do you find yourself drawn to the night sky, only to be put off by dense astronomical terminology? Do you want to introduce a child to science, but worry that short online videos may be full of errors and teach the wrong ideas?

Then this long-delayed popular science annual was made for you. It brings together outstanding articles by writers and reviewers from APC’s science communication team, written with honesty and clarity to reveal both the hard facts and the extraordinary beauty of our world.

Many readers may ask: Why are we publishing a 2019 annual in 2026? Will the articles be out of date?

The answer is simple and heartfelt. The year 2019 marked the beginning of our society’s work in science communication, while 2026 is Gewu Society’s tenth anniversary. These excellent articles should not remain buried in old archives; they deserve to reach readers. Knowledge itself does not expire, and we have also reviewed every article carefully to ensure that its content remains current. The editorial team of APC’s science communication group promises that annuals for other years will follow the 2019 edition. Stay tuned!

What will you find in the 2019 Gewu Annual?

You can follow some of the universe’s greatest stories, from the origin of the solar system to the Opportunity rover’s 15-year journey. We will help you understand the details of the stars above, making astronomy feel less remote or inaccessible.

You can also discover the science hidden in everyday life. Why can a Rubik’s Cube no longer be solved after a single corner is twisted? What kind of “magic” does GPS use to keep us from getting lost? What happens to a typhoon from birth to dissipation? How does AI simulate human intelligence? Across mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and Earth science, we unpack familiar experiences through clear logic and memorable analogies. The result is rigorous science that remains readable, understandable, and easy to remember, even for complete beginners.

Our Lantern Festival special, the Imagination Lab, is back with a wild new take on traditional lantern riddles! When even DNA becomes a sound-alike clue, can your imagination keep up?

The challenge begins in the APC recruitment group at 8:00 p.m. on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. Do not miss it!
